Central Banks: The Federal Reserve Beige Book of regional economic conditions gets published on Wednesday. A meeting of Group of Twenty central bank chiefs is planned in Bangkok, Thailand. Breeden, Pill, Mann and Bailey of the Bank of England, Koeda of the Bank of Japan, and Hammack of the Federal Reserve are some of the central bankers speaking publicly next week.
Holidays and Events: On Monday, the U.S. observes Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day, Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving, Spain commemorates National Day, and Japan observes Health Sports Day. U.S. banks will be mostly closed, but the stock exchange will be open. The IMF/World Bank meetings in Bangkok, Thailand runs from October 12-18. There will be a meeting there of G20 finance ministers, and the IMF’s World Economic Outlook with updated forecasts will be published.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Consumer prices, producer prices, import and export prices, existing home sales, retail sales, industrial production, the federalĀ budget statement with deficit totals for September and the fiscal year year that ended last month, the Philly Fed manufacturing survey, the Empire State manufacturing survey, and Treasury-compiled capital flows also known as the TIC data. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales and mortgage applications.
Japanese and Chinese Releases: Japanese PPI, import prices, machinery orders, capacity utilization, and revised industrial output. Chinese CPI, PPI, trade surplus, motor vehicle sales, M2 money growth, and new bank loans.
Selected Other Asia: Indian CPI and PPI. Indian and South Korean unemployment. Singaporean and Indian trade balances. South Korean import and export prices.
Euroland Releases: ZEW expectations index of investor sentiment, current account, trade balance and industrial production.
Members of the Euro Area: German ZEW expectations index, wholesale prices, and revised CPI. German, Spanish and French indices of leading and coincident economic indicators. Italian, Portuguese, Finnish, Austrian, Croatian, French, and Slovakian consumer prices. Irish, Italian and Dutch trade balances. Irish construction purchasing managers index, Spanish consumer sentiment, and Dutch PPI. Finnish and Latvian current accounts.
U.K. and Switzerland: British same store sales, monthly GDP, trade balance, industrial production, construction output and indices of leading and coincident economic indicators. Swiss producer prices and import prices.
Nordic Europe: Danish and Swedish consumer prices. Norway’s trade balance.
Eastern Europe: Czech, Bulgarian, and Polish consumer prices. Czech PPI, Polish current account and Hungarian industrial output.
Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey: Australian labor market statistics, Westpac leading business cycle and surveys of business confidence and conditions.
Canada, Brazil and Mexico: Canadian capacity utilization, manufacturing sales and orders, housing starts and building permits. Mexican and Brazilian industrial production. Brazilian retail sales and indices of leading and coincident economic indicators.
