Inconsistencies in the MAGA Agenda

February 11, 2026

Masks are the latest issue where far right politicians have taken strong stands both opposing and embracing an issue. In the early days of Covid when medical authorities believed that the spread of the pandemic could be slowed down by the wearing of masks, Republicans politicized that public health suggestion, calling it an affront to personal liberty. The same people are now defending the right of ICE agents to wear masks.

Left-of-center politicians are labeled Marxist by the president, yet the deployment of immigration agents and activated national guard troops to cities with the intent on rooting out segments of urban populations looks like a classic autocratic crackdown on dissidents such as those done in Stalinist Russia and by Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge.

While citizens are shot down on the streets of Minneapolis, gunning down protesters in Iran is threatened by possible U.S. military reprisals.

MAGA supporters widely identify as pro-life in one respect yet support a movement with pro-death objectives in so many other ways. It’s been estimated that close to 10 million people worldwide will die by the end of the decade because of the decision last year to close down USAID. Changes made to vaccination policy, support for higher education, and repressions against legal and illegal immigration are missing opportunities and likely to shorten lives, not lengthen them.

Lives around the world will also be lost as America steps away from the role of leader of the free world. Carving the world up into spheres of influence without any united and credible restraint against the militarily strongest doing whatever their leaders please is not a recipe for tranquil peace. Without treaties to limit the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the chance of their devastating use actually seems likely to rise.

America’s war between the states in the 1860’s remains its worst conflict, yet the once-unthinkable possibility of a rematch seems likelier with each passing month. Constitutional arrangements to divide political power between states and the federal government and among three different branches at the federal level are being neglected in many ways. Viewed regionally, the fault lines between red and blue states nowadays eerily resembles the pattern when a divorce was first entertained. Unlike then, unity is not an agenda promoted by the current president.

America was created as a second home for people where acceptable behaviors would be defined by negotiated rules, not the whims of people in power. Courts that adjudicate conflicts sift through applicable facts for the truth behind what is being contested and apply what is learned in a due process and according to established law. Not only is previously settled law now under attack, but so too is the distinction separating truth from falsehood. Time is ticking away, and some existential threats like climate change are going to exert a much larger toll on populations than should have been the case.

For the youngest generation here and around the world too, these never-to-be-repeated crucial years for establishing wholesome and confident mental attitudes, a thirst for learning, and positive values is getting wasted as well.

Pro life sadly looks like another catchy enticement masquerading for something wholly different, pro death.
