Central Banks: The Bank of England is expected to raise its bank rate Thursday by 25 basis points. Other central banks reviewing policy stances during the period include those in China, Hungary, Brazil, Norway, Switzerland, Mexico, the Philippines, and the Czech Republic.  Minutes from a past Bank of Japan Board meeting will be published. Fed Chairman Powell delivers his semi-annual testimony on the U.S. economy and Fed policy (formally known as the Humphrey-Hawkins hearings) to the House Financial Services Committee on Wednesday and reprises such before the Senate Banking Committee on Thursday. Other Fed officials speaking publicly during the period include Mester, Bostic and Bullard. Bullock and Kent of the Reserve Bank of Australia also have public speaking engagements.

Holidays and Special Events: Juneteenth Day falls on Monday in the United States. There is a meeting of EU finance ministers tomorrow.

Preliminary Purchasing Manager Surveys for June: Australia, Japan, Euroland, Germany, France, U.K. & U.S.

Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Quarterly current account. Monthly housing starts, building permits, pending home sales, existing home sales, NAHB housing market index, Chicago Fed National Activity Index, K.C. Fed manufacturing survey,  and index of leading economic indicators. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales, and mortgage applications.

Euroland Releases: Current account, car sales, construction output and consumer confidence.

Members of the Euro Area: German and Irish producer prices. Spanish and Dutch GDP. Dutch and Belgian consumer confidence. Italian current account and construction output. French business confidence and index of leading economic indicators. Ireland’s trade balance.

U.K. and Switzerland: British CPI, PPI, retail sales, industrial trends and distributive trades surveys, consumer confidence, Rightmove house price index and public sector borrowings. Swiss trade balance.

Eastern Europe: Russian, Latvian, and Polish producer prices. Polish retail sales and industrial production.

Nordic Europe: Swedish unemployment and Danish consumer confidence.

Japanese Data: Revised industrial production, consumer prices, and capacity utilization.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Malaysian and Singaporean consumer prices. Hong Kong and South Korean producer prices. Hong Kong’s current account, Malaysia’s trade balance, and India’s index of leading economic indicators.

Australia and New Zealand: Australia’s index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand’s May service sector purchasing managers index.

Turkey and South Africa: Turkish business confidence, consumer sentiment, and trade balance. South African consumer prices.

Canada and Mexico: Canadian retail sales and survey of manufacturing sales, orders and inventories. Mexican retail sales.
