Central Banks: Monetary policies will be reviewed in Ukraine, Turkey, Indonesia and China. The Fed Beige Book of U.S. regional economic conditions gets published on Wednesday, and Bullard, Cook, Bowman, Williams and Jefferson are some of the Fed officials speaking publicly during the period. Lane and Guidos of the European Central Bank also will be speaking publicly.
Special Events: The 20th National Chinese Congress kicks of Sunday, runs all week, and is expected to grant President Xi another five-year or longer term. A summit of leaders of the European Union begins Thursday.
Scheduled U.S. Data Releases: Housing starts, building permits, existing home sales, the Empire State and Philly Fed manufacturing surveys, the monthly fiscal deficit, and the index of leading economic indicators. Also weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, chain store sales, and energy inventories.
Chinese and Japanese Releases: Chinese 3Q GDP and monthly retail sales, industrial production, fixed asset investment, foreign direct investment, capacity utilization, unemployment, house prices and trade surplus. Japanese industrial production, capacity usage, tertiary index of service sector activity, consumer prices and customs trade balance.
Other Selected Asian Indicators: Indonesian, Malaysian, and Singaporean trade balances. Hong Kong and Malaysian consumer prices. Hong Kong unemployment and business confidence. South Korea’s PPI.
Euroland: CPI, consumer confidence, current account, construction output, new car sales, and ZEW index of investor sentiment.
Members of the Euro Area: German, Irish, and Portuguese producer prices. Italian and Greek current accounts. Dutch and Belgian consumer confidence. French and Austrian CPI. Irish trade balance, German ZEW expectations index, and Dutch household consumption.
U.K. and Switzerland: British CPI, PPI, DCLG house price index, retail sales, consumer confidence, Rightmove house price index and industrial trends survey. Swiss trade balance and ZEW index of investor sentiment.
Nordic Europe: Norwegian business confidence and trade balance. Icelandic consumer prices, Swedish unemployment and Danish consumer confidence.
Eastern Europe: Czech and Polish producer prices. Polish retail sales and industrial production.
Australia and New Zealand: Australian unemployment and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand service sector purchasing managers survey, trade balance, and third-quarter consumer prices.
South Africa and Turkey: South African CPI and retail sales. Turkish consumer confidence.
Canada and Mexico: Canadian CPI and PPI. Mexican retail sales and index of leading economic indicators.
