Central Banks: The Federal Reserve heads a list of scheduled monetary policy board meetings that also includes South Africa, Canada, Hungary, Chile and Colombia. Fed Chairman will hold a press conference that is expected to prepare investors for the possibility of a rate hike at the following meeting in March. A summary of the this week’s Bank of Japan board meeting will be published.

Events and Holidays: The election process of the next president of Italy starts on Monday. Prime Minister Draghi is in the running for this post but not assured of getting such. India’s Republic Day and Australia Day will be observed on Wednesday.

Scheduled U.S. Economic Data Releases: Fourth-quarter GDP and employment cost index. Monthly personal income, personal spending, PCE price deflator, consumer confidence (both the Conference Board and Reuters/U. Michigan indices), Richmond Fed, Dallas Fed and K.C. Fed manufacturing indices, durable goods orders, preliminary trade deficit estimate, Case-Shiller and FHFA house price indices, new home sales, pending home sales, Chicago Fed National Activity index, and IHS-compiled purchasing manager survey preliminary results. Monthly chain store sales, energy inventories, mortgage applications and jobless insurance claims.

Euroland Data: Economic sentiment, consumer confidence, M3 and bank credit growth, and preliminary PMI surveys.

Members of the Euro Area: French and German purchasing managers surveys. Italian, Spanish, French, Greek, Austrian and Finnish producer prices. Belgian and Spanish consumer prices. Italian, Greek, Finnish, Finnish, and  Portuguese business and consumer confidence. Spanish, French, Austrian, and Belgian GDP. German, French, Spanish, and Irish consumer confidence. German, Spanish, and Finnish unemployment. German IFO business climate index, French household spending, Irish current account, and Austrian manufacturing PMI.

U.K. and Switzerland: British preliminary purchasing managers survey findings, public sector net borrowing, industrial trends survey and distributive trades survey. Swiss trade balance, ZEW expectations index, and KOF-compiled leading economic indicators.

Nordic European Releases: Icelandic and Swedish unemployment and producer prices. Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian retail sales. Danish and Swedish business confidence. Swedish consumer sentiment and trade balance. Icelandic CPI.

Eastern Europe: Czech business confidence and consumer sentiment. Russian PPI and industrial production. Polish retail sales.

Japanese Data: Corporate service prices, Tokyo consumer prices, preliminary purchasing manager survey findings, and index of leading economic indicators.

Selected Other Asian Data Releases: Singaporean, Thai and Taiwanese industrial production. South Korean, Indian, Filipino, Hong Kong, and Taiwanese GDP. Malaysian, Filipino, and Hong Kong trade balances. Vietnamese and Taiwanese manufacturing PMI surveys. South Korean and Taiwanese consumer confidence.
