June and Second Quarter 2020 in Figures

The second quarter will be best remembered for the strong advances of stock markets after the first quarter’s debacle. Share price strength continued into June. There were no central bank interest changes in the countries featured in this update during the quarter, and net changes in 10-year sovereign debt yields were very small in June. Long-term rates for the quarter as a whole were significant and mixed from a direction standpoint in the cases of the U.K., Canada and Switzerland.
The dollar and sterling weakened during the quarter. Oil and gold prices rose strongly.
From early on April 1st to now, global Covid-19 cases climbed from 877,744 to 10,574,637 and related deaths advanced from 43,569 to 513,143. Similar proliferation during the third quarter would lift the global case and death counts to 127 million and 6 million people by September 30.
