U.S. Nonmanufacturing PMI Survey and Euroland Services PMI Survey Show Slower Rates of Expansion in March

The ISM-compiled U.S. non-manufacturing purchasing managers index slipped back 0.7 points to a 3-month low in March 0f 58.8, which was still very robust. Increases of 1.6 points in the employment sub-index and 0.5 points in prices mitigated declines of 5.3 points in orders and 2.2 points in sales.
The IHS-compiled Euroland services PMI dropped 1.3 points to a 14-month low of 54.9. Seven-month lows were set in France and Germany, along with 3-month lows in Italy and Spain and a 4-month low for Ireland.
As in manufacturing, the U.S. and euro area non-manufacturing sectors continued to expand during March but lost some further upward momentum. The slowdown was more pronounced in Europe, cause the U.S.-minus-Euroland differential to widen to a 5-month high of 3.9 points. The sum of the manufacturing and services/nonmanufacturing spread increased to 6.6 points. As can be seen in the right-most column below, that sum of the two spreads was at its widest point since the end of 2014.
