Speech:  President Obama delivers the 2015 State of the Union Address Tuesday before a joint session of Congress.

Holidays:  Martin Luther King’s Birthday in the United States on Monday.

Meetings:  World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland starts Wednesday and runs for the rest of the week.

Preliminary Purchasing Managers Indices: Composite, manufacturing and services for euro area, Germany and France; Manufacturing for U.S. and Japan.

United States Data:  Housing starts, existing home sales, building permits, Chicago Fed National Activity Index, and index of leading economic indicators, and Kansas City Fed manufacturing index, plus weekly jobless insurance claims, chain store sales, mortgage applications, energy inventories and consumer comfort.

Euro Area: Construction output, house prices, consumer confidence, debt/GDP and deficit/GDP 3Q ratios, and current account.

  • German producer prices, ZEW index of investor sentiment, and index of leading economic indicators.
  • French index of leading economic indicators, Italian retail sales and industrial orders, and Spanish unemployment.
  • Dutch consumer confidence and consumer spending, Belgian business climate, Austrian industrial output, and Portuguese PPI.

United Kingdom: Retail sales, CBI surveys of industrial trends and distributive trends, public-sector borrowing requirement, and labor market statistics.

Nordic Europe: Swedish unemployment, Icelandic wage inflation, and Danish retail sales and consumer confidence.
