U.S. PMI Readings Improved Last Month Relative to Euroland’s

The ISM-compiled U.S. non-manufacturing PMI rebounded 0.4 points to a reading in November of 60.7. That still reflects rapidly improved conditions. Sub-indices for production, orders and prices climbed by 2.7, 1.0 and 2.6 points between October and last month, but the measure of employment declined 1.3 points.
The IHS-compiled service sector purchasing managers index for the euro area edged 0.3 points lower to a 25-month low in November of 53.4.ctober, falling 1.0 point to 53.7. The Italian PMI moved back above 50 but just barely, and the Irish, German and French indices fell to respective 8-, 6-, and 2-month lows.
The U.S. non-manufacturing PMI reading was consequently 7.3 index points above Euroland’s services PMI. This made November the most U.S.-advantageous month relative to the euro area economy since November 2014. Likewise the sum of this 7.3-point differential and a 7.5-point differential between the U.S. and Ezone manufacturing PMI readings also represents a four-year peak.
