Central Banks: Monetary policies will be reviewed in the United States, Japan, Euroland, Sweden and Hungary. Fed Chairman Powell, European Central Bank President Lagarde, and Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda will hold press conferences after their respective meeings, and the Bank of Japan will publish a new Outlook for Economic Activity and Prices.

A Holiday-Laden Period: South Africa and New Zealand will be closed Monday for Freedom Day and Anzac Day, respectively. Japan shuts Wednesday to observe Showa Day, and Hong Kong and South Korea will be observing Buddha’s birthday on Thursday. May Day on Friday will be celebrated in numerous countries including Spain, France, Norway, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, South Korea, China, Mexico, Brazil, Hong Kong Singapore, Canada, and South Africa.

Purchasing Manager Surveys: April manufacturing surveys will be reported for China, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, Switzerland, South Africa, Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, Austria and Australia. The NBS-compiled Chinese manufacturing and non-manufacturing PMI surveys and IHS-compiled U.S. manufacturing purchasing managers survey are due, too.

Scheduled U.S. Economic Statistical Releases: Quarterly GDP. Monthly personal income, personal consumption expenditures, PCE price deflator, Dallas and Richmond Fed manufacturing indices, advance trade balance, Case-Shiller house price index, construction spending, motor vehicle sales, and employment cost index. Weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, energy inventories, consumer comfort, and chain store sales.

Euroland Data: Quarterly GDP. Monthly economic sentiment, consumer confidence, consumer prices, unemployment, and money and credit growth.

Members of the Euro Area: German, Italian, Spanish, French, Belgian,  and Austrian GDP. German, Greek, Irish and Spanish retail sales. German, Italian, and Spanish unemployment. German, Italian, and Spanish consumer prices. French, Austrian, and Greek producer prices. Cypriot and Portuguese industrial production. French and Portuguese consumer confidence. German import prices, Spanish current account, French consumer spending, and Finnish trade balance.

U.K. and Switzerland: British distributive trades survey, shop prices, Nationwide house price index, and money growth. Swiss ZEW expectations index and KOF index of leading economic indicators.

Nordic Europe: Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish retail sales. Icelandic and Danish unemployment. Swedish trade balance and consumer confidence. Iceland’s PPI and CPI.

Eastern Europe: Hungarian producer prices, trade balance and unemployment.

Japanese Data: Retail sales, industrial production, unemployment, housing starts, consumer confidence, motor vehicles production, motor vehicle sales, Tokyo CPI and construction orders.

Other Asian Releases: Hong Kong, South Korean, and Thai trade balances. Malaysian and Singaporean producer prices. Chinese corporate profits, Singaporean unemployment and Indonesian CPI. South Korean consumer confidence, manufacturing sector sentiment, retail sales and industrial production.

Australia and New Zealand: Australian quarterly CPI and monthly export/import prices, money growth and private credit expansion. New Zealand quarterly unemployment and jobs growth and monthly business confidence and trade balance.

South Africa and Turkey: South African and Turkish trade balances. South African CPI, PPI, money and private credit growth.

Canada: Monthly GDP, PPI, raw material prices and average weekly earnings.

Mexico and Brazil: Mexican and Brazilian unemployment. Mexican GDP and trade balance. Brazilian producer prices.
