Holiday Closures: New Year’s Day, which falls on Tuesday, is the most broadly experienced holiday in the world. Russia will be closed also on Monday and New Zealand on Wednesday. Japan is shut on Thursday and will close early¬† on Friday. Much of Switzerland will be observing Berchold’s Day on Wednesday.

Central Banks: Minutes will be published from last Bank of Mexico policy meeting. Fed Chairman Powell and Atlanta Fed President Bostic deliver speeches on Friday.

Purchasing Manager Indices: Russia’s manufacturing PMI and the NBS-compiled manufacturing and non-manufacturing PMIs arrive Monday.¬† Manufacturing PMIs arrive for Indonesia, The Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, China, India, Vietnam, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Ireland, Turkey, Great Britain, Euroland, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Norway, Denmark, Mexico, the United States, and Canada on Wednesday. Thursday sees the release of the U.K. construction PMI and Australia’s services PMI. More service PMIs arrive Friday covering China, the United States, Brazil, the U.K., Germany, Euroland, Italy, France, Spain, Ireland, and India. Japan’s manufacturing PMI and private PMIs for Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa get released Friday, too.

Scheduled U.S. Statistical Releases: The monthly Labor Department’s labor force survey as well as the advance trade balance, the NAPM regional New York PMI, new home sales, construction spending, ADP’s estimate of private sector jobs, motor vehicle sales and weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, chain store sales, and energy inventories.

Asian Data: South Korean consumer prices and trade. Singapore’s GDP, Indonesian consumer prices, and Hong Kong retail sales.

Euroland: Producer prices, money growth, and bank lending.

U.K., Switzerland, and Norway: British shop prices, M4 money growth, and Nationwide house price index. Swiss retail sales and Norwegian unemployment.

Members of the Euro Area: German unemployment, French and Italian consumer prices, and Spanish consumer confidence.

Australia and South Africa: Australian and South African money and private credit growth.

Canada and Brazil: Canadian producer prices, unemployment, employment, and raw material prices. Brazil’s trade balance.
