Central Banks: Monetary policies will be reviewed at the Federal Reserve and in Chile, Hungary and Colombia. Fed Chairman Powell will hold a news conference Wednesday, and the Bank of Japan will publish a summary of this week’s meeting and minutes from the previous one.

Holidays and Special Events: Tuesday is Australia Day. Republic Day will also be be observed Tuesday in India. It’s unclear when the Trump impeachment trial will begin in the senate, but the week ahead for sure will include more cabinet confirmation hearings for candidates nominated by President Biden.

Scheduled U.S. Economic Data Releases: Fourth-quarter GDP and employment cost index. Monthly personal income, personal consumption expenditures, PCE price deflator, consumer confidence (both Conference Board and U. Michigan measures), pending home sales, new home sales, FHFA house price index, Case Shiller house price index, Richmond Fed, Kansas City Fed and Dallas Fed manufacturing indices, Chicago Fed National Activity Index, advance trade deficit estimate, durable goods orders, and index of leading economic indicators. Weekly jobless insurance claims, consumer comfort, energy inventories, mortgage applications, and chain store sales.

Japanese Data: Retail sales, industrial production, unemployment, corporate service prices, Tokyo CPI, consumer confidence, housing starts, construction orders, and index of leading economic indicators.
