Holiday’s and Special Events: New Zealand remains closed Monday for the New Year’s Day holiday, and Italians observe Epiphany Day on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, Georgian voters will select each of their two senators, which in turn will decide party control of the upper chamber of the U.S. Congress. Separately on Wednesday, the senate will count the electoral college votes and formally declare the next President of the United States. A videoconference of OPEC and non-OPEC ministers is scheduled for Monday.

Central Banks: There are no monetary policy reviews of significance, but FOMC minutes, Bank of Mexico Governing Board meeting minutes, and the ECB Economic Bulletin will be published during the week. Bank of England Governor Bailey and Bostic, Evans and Williams of the Federal Reserve speak publicly.

December Purchasing Manager Surveys: A slew of PMI reports will arrive this week. Most of those focused on manufacturing are scheduled Monday. Non-oil Middle Eastern surveys on Tuesday, service-sector PMIs on Wednesday, and construction surveys on Thursday will follow.

U.S. Statistical Economic Data Releases: Monthly unemployment, non-farm payroll jobs, average hourly earnings, factory orders, construction spending, NY regional PMI (aka NAPM index), motor vehicle sates, consumer credit, ADP estimate of private employment and the trade balance. Weekly jobless insurance claims, mortgage applications, energy inventories, consumer comfort, and chain store sales.

Euroland: Money growth, credit expansion, economic sentiment, producer prices, retail sales, consumer confidence and Sentix gauge of investor sentiment.

Members of the Euro Area: German retail sales, unemployment, CPI, current account, trade balance, industrial production and factory orders. French, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, and Austrian consumer confidence. Spanish, Portuguese, Finnish, Greek and Austrian business sentiment. Italian and Cypriot consumer prices. French, Finnish, Portuguese, Austrian, and Greek trade balances. Italian and Irish unemployment. Belgian and Austrian producer prices. Irish, French and Finnish industrial production. French current account and consumer spending.

U.K. and Switzerland: British car sales, money growth, mortgage approvals, shop prices and Halifax house price index. Swiss consumer prices, unemployment and retail sales.

Nordic Europe: Norwegian, Danish and Swedish industrial production. Swedish industrial orders and household spending. Danish business sentiment.

Eastern Europe: Polish, Romanian, and Hungarian retail sales. Hungarian PPI and unemployment. Czech trade balance and industrial production. Romanian retail sales.

Japanese Data: Consumer confidence, labor cash earnings, bank lending, household spending, monetary base and index of leading economic indicators.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Filipino, Thai, and Indonesian consumer prices. Hong Kong, Indonesian, and Singaporean retail sales. Thai PPI, business sentiment,  and consumer confidence. South Korean current account, Indian trade balance, Singaporean GDP and Filipino industrial production.

Australia and Turkey: Australian building permits, home loans, and trade balance. Turkish CPI and PPI.

Canada: Monthly labor market statistics, trade balance, producer prices and IVEY-PMI.

Mexico and Brazil: Mexican business sentiment, consumer prices and consumer confidence. Brazilian producere prices and industrial production.
