Central Banks: Monetary policies will be reviewed in Russia, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, Israel, Turkey, China and Hungary. The Fed Beige Book of U.S. regional economic conditions will be published, and so will minutes of the last monetary policy meetings in Australia and India. ECB President Lagarde, Bank of England Governor Bailey, and DeBelle and Kent of the Reserve Bank of Australia are some of the monetary officials that will be speaking publicly next week.

Special Events: New Zealand holds its parliamentary election October 17th. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s Labour Party leads in opinion polls. On-line IMF/World Bank meetings will continue over the weekend. The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote on Amy Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court is scheduled October 22nd, and the final debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is set for that evening.

Scheduled U.S. Statistical Releases: Housing starts, building permits, existing home sales, the National Association of Home Builders housing index, the Kansas City Fed manufacturing survey, and the index of leading economic indicators. Also weekly jobless insurance claims, consumer comfort, mortgage applications, chain store sales and energy inventories.

Euroland Data: Preliminary purchasing manager survey results, current account, construction output, and index of leading economic indicators.

Members of the Euro Area: German and French preliminary PMI surveys. German, Portuguese, and Irish producer prices. French business confidence and German IFO Institute’s business climate survey. German, Belgian and Dutch consumer confidence. Greek and Italian current accounts. Spanish and Finnish unemployment. Dutch consumer spending and  Austrian industrial production.

U.K. and Switzerland: British preliminary purchasing manager survey results, consumer prices, producer prices, retail prices, home prices, consumer confidence, retail sales, industrial trends survey, distributive trades survey, Rightmove house price index, and public sector borrowing. Swiss money growth and balance of trade.

Nordic Europe: Icelandic consumer prices, danish consumer confidence and Sweden’s PPI. Norwegian unemployment and business confidence.

Eastern Europe: Polish industrial production, retail sales, unemployment, PPI and consumer confidence. Russian GDP, retail sales and unemployment.

Japanese and Chinese Data Releases: Japanese customs trade balance, all industry index, corporate service prices, and CPI. Chinese quarterly GDP and capacity use, and monthly retail sales, industrial production, fixed asset investment, unemployment, property prices, and index of leading economic indicators.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Malaysian, Singaporean, and Hong Kong consumer prices. Taiwanese and Hong Kong unemployment. Taiwanese retail sales and industrial production. Thai trade balance and South Korean PPI.

Australia and New Zealand: Australian preliminary PMI survey, Westpac-compiled index of leading economic indicators, and retail sales. New Zealand services PMI, NZIER business confidence and quarterly CPI.

Turkey and South Africa: Turkish consumer sentiment and South Africa’s index of leading economic indicators.

Canada, Mexico, and Brazil: Canadian and Mexican retail sales and wholesale turnover. Canadian consumer prices, Mexican unemployment and Brazil’s current account.
