Central Banks: In spite of the Covid-19 pandemic, monetary policy meetings are being held next week in a slew of countries featuring the Fed and Bank of Japan and to be followed by press conferences by Powell and Kuroda. Policy boards also meet in China, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, South Africa, Switzerland, Indonesia Iceland, Norway and the Philippines. Minutes of this month’s Australian monetary policy meeting will be published.

Holidays and Events: Japan observes the Vernal Equinox holiday on March 20. There is a meeting of the Eurogroup on Monday. Democratic Party primaries on March 17 in Florida, Ohio, Arizona and Illinois will allocate a total of 577 delegates.

Scheduled U.S. Economic Statistical Releases: Quarterly current account. Monthly industrial production, capacity utilization, existing home sales, housing starts, building permits, NAHB housing index, retail sales, Treasury-compiled capital flows, JOLTS index, Philly Fed manufacturing index, Empire State manufacturing index, Richmond Fed manufacturing index, and index of leading economic indicators. Weekly jobless insurance claims, consumer comfort, chain store sales, energy inventories, and mortgage applications.

Japanese and Chinese Data: Japanese revised industrial production, capacity usage, customs trade balance, supermarket sales, department store sales, and machinery orders. Chinese retail sales, industrial production, unemployment, home prices and fixed asset investment.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Indian, Indonesian and Singaporean trade balances. Indian wholesale prices, Hong Kong unemployment, and South Korean producer prices.

Euroland: ZEW index of investor confidence, construction output, car sales, consumer prices, current account, trade balance, labor costs, and index of leading economic indicators.

Members of the Euro Area: German ZEW expectations index. Dutch and Belgian consumer confidence. Irish, Belgian and Italian trade balances. German, Irish, and Portuguese PPI. Italian, Cypriot, and Austrian consumer prices. Italian and Greek current accounts. French index of leading economic indicators and Italian industrial orders.

U.K. and Switzerland: British labor statistics, car sales and monthly survey of industrial trends. Swiss producer prices, import prices, trade balance, and government macroeconomic forecasts.

Eastern Europe: Polish PPI, industrial production, and retail sales. Polish and Czech current accounts.

Nordic Europe: Danish producer prices, Icelandic CPI, and Norway’s trade balance.

Australia, New Zealand and South Africa: Australian labor statistics, home prices, and index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand quarterly GDP and current account, plus monthly services purchasing managers index and consumer confidence. South African CPI, retail sales, and wholesale turnover.

Canada, Brazil and Mexico: Canadian consumer prices, home prices, and survey of manufacturing sales, orders, and inventories. Brazilian and Mexican indices of leading economic indicators.
