Central Banks: Monetary policies to be reviewed in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Minutes from last policy meetings to be published by the Fed and Reserve Bank of Australia. The annual Kansas City Fed-Sponsored central bank symposium in Jackson Hole, WY runs from August 22 through 24 with a theme of “challenges for monetary policy.”

Scheduled U.S. Economic Statistical Releases: Monthly existing and new home sales, Kansas City Fed manufacturing index, and Conference Board’s index of leading economic indicators. Weekly jobless insurance claims, consumer comfort, mortgage applications, chain store sales, and energy inventories.

Members of the Euro Area: German and French preliminary PMIs (both manufacturing and services). German, Irish and Portuguese producer prices. Italian and Greek current accounts. Dutch and Belgian consumer confidence. Belgian business sentiment, Austrian consumer prices, and Spain’s trade balance.

U.K. and Switzerland: Monthly surveys by CBI of British industrial trends and distributive trades. British Rightmove house price index and public sector net borrowing. Swiss trade balance, money growth and industrial production.

Nordic Europe: Swedish and Norwegian unemployment. Icelandic consumer price and wage inflation. Danish consumer sentiment and Norwegian GDP.

Eastern Europe: Polish retail sales.

Japanese Data: Manufacturing purchasing managers index, consumer prices, all industry index, supermarket and department store sales, and customs trade balance.
