As officials and the private sector rush to get the month’s work done before yearend holidays, the third week of December tends to be crowded with activity, and 2018 is no exception.

Central Banks: Central bank policy reviews in the United States, Japan, the U.K., Sweden, Indonesia, Hungary, Taiwan, Thailand, Mexico, Colombia, and the Czech Republic. Leaders of the Fed, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan, and Bank of England will be speaking publicly. Minutes from the last Reserve Bank of Australia get published.

Holiday: South African Day of Remembrance on Monday.

Scheduled U.S. Economic Data: Quarterly GDP and current account. Monthly personal income, personal consumption spending, PCE price deflator, existing home sales, NAHB housing index, Empire State, Kansas City Fed and Philly Fed manufacturing indices, housing starts, building permits, durable goods orders, Treasury-compiled capital flows, index of leading economic indicators, and Reuters/U. Michigan consumer sentiment. Weekly jobless insurance claims, energy inventories, chain store sales, mortgage applications and consumer comfort.

Japanese Data: Customs trade balance, department and supermarket sales, all industry index, and consumer prices.

Selected Other Asian Releases: Indonesian and Singaporean trade figures. Indian and Chinese indices of leading economic indicators. Hong Kong’s current account and consumer prices. South Korean producer prices and Chinese property prices.

Euroland: CPI, current account, trade balance, construction output, consumer confidence, and index of leading economic indicators.

Members of the Euro Area: French GDP, business sentiment, PPI, consumer spending, and index of leadingĀ  economic indicators. Spanish and Italian trade balances. Italian PPI, current account, business sentiment, and consumer confidence. Austrian and Cypriot consumer prices. Belgian and Dutch consumer confidence. Portuguese, Austrian, and Greek current accounts. Austrian CPI and industrial production. Finnish PPI and unemployment. Irish PPI and Belgium’s business climate index.

Nordic Europe: Norwegian trade balance and unemployment. Danish PPI, retail sales and consumer confidence. Icelandic CPI, PPI and wage costs. Swedish retail sales and producer prices.

Eastern Europe: Polish CPI, PPI, industrial production, retail sales, and unemployment. Czech producer prices and Hungary’s current account.

Australia and New Zealand: Australian unemployment, jobs growth, new home sales, and Westpac index of leading economic indicators. New Zealand service sector purchasing managers index, current account, GDP, trade balance, and consumer confidence.

Turkey and South Africa: Turkish unemployment, industrial production, retail sales and consumer confidence. South African index of leading economic indicators.

Canadian Data: Existing home sales, consumer prices, retail sales, monthly GDP, industrial production, wholesale turnover, and manufacturing sales, orders and inventories.
