Holidays and Conferences:  U.S. markets are closed Monday for Martin Luther King’s holiday.  The World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland runs from Wednesday through Friday.

Central Banks:  Interest rate meetings are scheduled at the European Central Bank, Bank of Canada, and in Turkey, Brazil and Malaysia.

Scheduled U.S. Data Releases:  Consumer prices, housing starts, building permits, NAHB housing index, existing home sales, Conference Board index of leading economic indicators, Chicago Fed National Activity Index, and weekly jobless insurance claims, chain store sales, consumer comfort, energy inventories, and mortgage applications.

Chinese Economic Indicators:  Quarterly 4Q GDP and monthly industrial production, retail sales, fixed asset investment, business sentiment, and property prices.

Japanese Releases:  All industry index, tertiary index, revised industrial production, capacity usage, preliminary manufacturing purchasing managers index, supermarket sales and department store sales.

U.K. and Switzerland:  British CPI, PPI, DCLG house price index, retail sales, RICs house price balance index, Rightmove house price index, labor statistics, and public sector borrowing.  Swiss producer and import prices, M3 money growth, and UBS consumption indicator.

Eastern Europe:  Polish CPI, industrial output, and retail sales.  Czech producer prices.

Nordic Europe:  Icelandic wage costs and Danish retail sales and consumer sentiment.

Canada:  Retail sales, wholesale turnover, consumer prices and monthly survey of manufacturing shipments and orders.
