Central Reserve Bank of Peru Left Reference Interest rate at 4.25%

May 10, 2013

Peru’s central bank interest rate has been at 4.25% since a 25-basis point increase in May 2011.  It was raised by 400 bps in 2010-2011 after being reduced in 2009 from 6.5% to 1.25%.  A statement released by monetary authorities after Thursday’s meeting reaffirmed that GDP is projected to expand this year at close to its potential non-inflationary trend and noted that both core and total inflation had eased closer to target in April.  Convergence on that target has been anticipated.  External markets still exhibit a “weak performance.
